The Rubakov-callan Effect and Black Holes
نویسنده
چکیده
The Rubakov-Callan effect is reexamined by considering the gravitational effects caused by the heavy monopole mass. Assuming that the Higgs vacuum expectation value is as large as (or larger than) the Planck mass, we argue that the calculational scheme of Rubakov and Callan may be extended in the presence of curved background field. It is argued that the density of the fermion condensate around a magnetically charged black hole is modified in a intricate way.

Monopole-induced baryon-number violation in "realistic" grand unified theories.
We consider the embedding of the SU(2) monopole of ‘t Hooft and Polyakov into “realistic” grand unified theories and find a complication that may possibly -. interfere with the Callan-Rubakov effect. The fine tuning that keeps the weak interaction scale much smaller than the GUT scale is necessarily upset in the . vicinity of a magnetic monopole, and there is a probability of order one that the...
متن کاملBlack Hole Evaporation in 1 + 1 Dimensions Jorge
The formation and quantum mechanical evaporation of black holes in two spacetime dimensions can be studied using effective classical field equations, recently introduced by Callan et al. We find that gravitational collapse always leads to a curvature singularity, according to these equations, and that the region where the quantum corrections introduced by Callan et al. could be expected to domi...
متن کاملFinite - Size Core Effects in the Callan - Rubakov Model
a-The interaction of the J = 0 partial wave of a massless isodoublet Dirac fermion with an SU(2) gauge theory monopole of finite size is investigated by studying the original model of Callan and Rubakov with boundary conditions imposed at a core radius rg # 0. Both the chirality non-conserving and gauge-invariant " charged " con-densates are studied with special attention to their leading depen...
متن کاملMonopole-catalysed Baryon Decay: a Boundary Conformal Field Theory Approach
Monopole-mediated baryon number violation, the Callan-Rubakov effect, is reexamined using boundary conformal field theory techniques. It is shown that the low-energy behaviour is described simply by free fermions with a conformally invariant boundary condition at the dyon location. When the number of fermion flavours is greater than two, this boundary condition is of a non-trivial type which ha...
متن کامل/ 9412224 On Quantum Black Holes ∗
A pedagogical discussion is given of some aspects of “quantum black holes”, primarily using recently developed two-dimensional models. After a short preliminary concerning classical black holes, we give several motivations for studying such models, especially the so called dilaton gravity models in 1 + 1 dimensions. Particularly attractive is the one proposed by Callan,Giddings, Harvey and Stro...
